I’ve been dreaming of a
better solution for an expensive power washer. Ultra Pro 5
works great with my standard washout nozzle, but I plan to
begin using 10 mil Ultra Vinyl which requires a little more
washout pressure.
This little unit is home made, but don’t let that fool you.
It runs on air pressure and does an absolutely AWESOME job!
Besides that, it can fit in the top drawer of my desk.
See the two photos of me holding the unit. The first one is
just standard water pressure, the second one is of the gun
with only 20 lbs. of air pressure. The sweetest part of this
thing is that I can control both the pressure and the volume
of the water.
With the air hooked up, I simply pull the trigger (to
release the air) and slowly open the handle on the hose shut
off valve. The water will begin to surge slightly, but it
will even out when just the correct amount begins to flow. I
know the flow is correct when it produces just a little bit
of a sting on the back of my arm.
I use a standard air nipple for the nozzle. The ¼ n.p.t.
thread fits the tee perfectly and has an approx. orifice
size of .200”. It produces a round spray pattern that does a
remarkably fine job. I estimate that my washout time is only
one-third of the usual time with the old sprayer. That means
66% LESS time for the resist to erode.
No water back flows into my air lines either.
Most all of these goodies can be obtained locally. As you
can see, I didn’t break the bank either!
The air goes into the base of the handle, where the water
would normally enter if it were hooked up to an actual
pressure washer. The water is turned on and off at the end
of the hose using the shut off valve.
