Maybe everyone else has already thought of this and done it, but it just occurred to me that this would make an ideal night light. This is my first try, and I need to get a lot better with the carving, but I was pleased with how it turned out. You cannot see it in the picture, but I used blue LEDs for the baby boy. Turns out thet 3 LEDs are enough light. I started with 9 and it was bright enough to read by.
The base was made from cherry with an oil finish.
I made it for one of the ladies in my office. The downside is that there are three other pregnant ladies in the office and I will have to make one for each of them also.

Dave, nicely done and as the saying goes "No good deed goes unpunished."

I really like it! Did you make the base or purchase?

Thanks!

Great idea. Ihave made several of these and have considered including baby feet but haven't done so. Are those the actual
print from the birth certificate. Half inch starfire glass and spanish cedar base w/ led lighting

Laurie - I made the base, which was much more difficult than the glass part. Three LEDs are plenty for a nightlight and are actually a little too bright. So far I have made bases from cherry and black walnut, up to 20 inches long (18 in glass). LEDs are available in blue but not in pink. Still working on that.

7 Oaks - The prints are the actual prints from the hospital record. A photocopy works well, since the prints are carved you don't need much detail in the image. I really like your version, also. I will probably steal the idea. I'm using 1/4 in glass, mostly just plain glass from a local shop. I have ordered some better pieces but have not received them yet.
